Prenatal screening in the Caribbean Netherlands

During your first visit, your midwife will ask if you would like to know more about screening for chromosomal abnormalities and screening for physical abnormalities.

There are two options:

1. You would prefer not to know. That means you will not get any information and you will not have the screening tests.
2. You do want to know. You will have a long talk with the midwife (counseling). After this, you decide if you want to have one or more screening tests:
   • NIPT: yes or no
   • 20-week ultrasound: yes or no

Screening test: you decide

The NIPT and the 20-week ultrasound are not required. You decide if you want to have one or more tests done and what you want to do with the results. You can also decide to stop the testing at any time.
